JOB TYPE: Full-Time

LOCATION: Hybrid (Pomona, CA Office 1 day/week, Site visits as needed)

COMPENSATION: Up to $160k+ starting salary for level 3 candidate, level 4 candidates could see starting salary of $200k, other compensation to be discussed during offer stage.

POSITION SUMMARY: We are seeking a skilled and experienced Substation Structural Engineer to join the Paxon team and play a pivotal role in the design, analysis, and optimization of substation structures. As a Substation Structural Engineer, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the safety, stability, and reliability of proposed and installed electrical substation infrastructure. Your expertise will contribute to the successful implementation of high-voltage electrical projects and the delivery of sustainable energy solutions.

What you will be responsible for: (Disclaimer: The lists below are not all inclusive)

You will be working directly under the supervision of the Electrical Operations Manager

  • Structural Design and Analysis:
    • Perform structural analysis, calculations, and simulations to ensure the integrity and stability of substation structures, such as foundations, steel structures, and equipment supports.
    • Utilize engineering software and tools to assess factors like load distribution, wind loads, seismic loads, and temperature variations, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
  • Project Development:
    • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, civil engineers, and project managers to develop efficient and reliable substation designs.
    • Provide input during the conceptual and detailed design phases to optimize structural configurations and material selection.
  • Code Compliance and Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that all designs and analysis meet relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations related to structural engineering in substations.
    • Perform thorough quality checks and reviews of design documentation to minimize errors and ensure accuracy.
  • Technical Documentation:
    • Prepare comprehensive technical reports, design specifications, and drawings for substation structures, highlighting key calculations, assumptions, and recommendations.
  • Innovation and Problem Solving:
    • Identify opportunities for innovation in substation design, construction methods, and materials to enhance project efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
    • Address complex engineering challenges and provide creative solutions to unexpected issues that may arise during the project lifecycle.
  • Construction Support:
    • Collaborate closely with construction teams during the execution phase, addressing any design-related questions or issues that arise during the construction of substation structures.
    • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure that construction aligns with approved design plans.
  • Continuing Education:
    • Stay up to date with industry advancements, emerging technologies, and changes in codes and regulations related to substation structural engineering.
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    You must have the following: (Minimum)

    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with a focus on structural engineering.
    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in structural engineering, with a focus on high-voltage substations
    • Proven experience in the design and analysis of substation structures, including foundations, steel supports, and equipment platforms.
    • Proficiency in structural analysis software such as SAP
