Air Resources Engineer (MAND)
Salary range: $6,488.00 – $12,152.00 per month (New to State candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification).
Responsibilities- Act as project manager for in‑use engine and equipment emissions testing programs.
- Create test plans, procure vehicles and off‑road equipment, and coordinate with various CARB sections to instrument and test vehicles.
- Conduct emissions compliance and defeat device analysis.
- Review and process recalls to correct noncompliance and support CARB enforcement actions.
- Engage with manufacturers and U.S. EPA to facilitate testing, discuss compliance, and investigate emissions noncompliance issues.
- Travel up to 10% of the time, including overnight or multi‑day trips, to conduct laboratory audits and verify compliance.
- Communicate and coordinate with engine manufacturers, develop corrective actions, review voluntary recalls, and track implementation.
- Support CARB enforcement staff with litigation or settlement actions when necessary.
- Serve as lead staff for work groups and technical meetings and engage in outreach events with industry, government, and the public.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to engage with stakeholders and create and review technical documents.
- Technical background in vehicle or engine emissions control systems, especially aftertreatment, and experience with emissions testing.
- Ability to collect and analyze data, develop solutions, and present information effectively.
- Experience as a project manager for in‑use compliance programs and defeat device investigations.
- Experience preparing and executing emissions test plans and performing engineering analysis of emissions test data.
- Experience reviewing and processing recalls, supporting CARB enforcement, and auditing emissions test laboratories.
Hybrid telework may be available under California Air Resources Board policy; in‑person attendance is required depending on operational needs.
