Manufacturing & Test Engineer Overview
The Manufacturing & Test Engineer works in a hands‑on environment supporting the operations team to provide technical support for production. The role involves designing and building new electro‑mechanical test equipment for new products, maintaining, repairing, and planning obsolescence for existing test equipment, and continuous improvement with a strategic approach to automation.
Responsibilities- Develop a thorough understanding of the company's products and all test requirements (primarily: rotary actuators, hydraulic valves, and pressure/temperature switches).
- Design, develop and build automated electro‑mechanical manufacturing and production test equipment for in‑house use.
- Create electrical schematics, 2D electrical drawings, mechanical drawings, and part selections to support component and material purchase.
- Collaborate with Supply Chain to find reliable vendors and write software to support test equipment development.
- Modify existing test equipment hardware and/or software to accommodate new or changed requirements.
- Service, maintain and repair test equipment; upgrade or replace old/obsolete systems.
- Write comprehensive statements‑of‑work and evaluate/select vendors for test equipment development and fabrication.
- Work on electrical panels, controllers, and circuit boards of high‑pressure pneumatic and hydraulic systems (up to 10,000 PSI).
- Work on test equipment operating at high temperatures (up to 600 °F).
- Write and perform test system validation and calibration procedures to AS9100 requirements.
- Maintain test system documentation to AS9100 requirements.
- Recommend, implement, and improve machining process flows and tools, and assist machinists with program prove‑out.
- Implement quick‑change tool setups and establish standard times for setup and run of each operation on assigned parts.
- Participate in engineering design reviews on new products and design changes for Design for Manufacture and Design to Cost; review engineering drawings for manufacturing datum’s, key characteristics and tolerance stack‑up to ensure efficient manufacturing methods.
- Ensure a safe environment at all times.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
- Mechanical design experience.
- Hardware testing experience.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience collaborating and interacting with cross‑functional teams.
- Ambitious problem solver.
- Travel up to 5 %.
- Able to lift up to 40 lbs.
