Internship Program OverviewOur Internship and New College Graduate program is best designed for students who seek an immersive and hands‑on experience. We view every student as a potential hire and ensure each intern, co‑op student and new college graduate is set up for success to accomplish short and long term career goals.
What You’ll Do as a Project Engineer Intern- Labor and budget tracking feedback
- Equipment and subcontractor procurement
- Document control
- Design, trade and subcontractor coordination
- Assist in budget analysis, cost and margin projections, estimate project changes & impacts
- Assist in the development and management of project schedules
- Assist in estimating the impact of project changes
- Assist management of change orders
- Assist with assembling submittal packages and other required project documentation
- Assist with procurement of equipment, materials, subcontractors and other project‑related services
- Support the construction team as needed

- Enrolled in a degree program that aligns with Southland needs:
Mechanical, Architectural, Electrical Engineering;
Construction Engineering;
Construction Management;
Civil Engineering;
Safety Sciences; or related areas such as Building Automation or Energy Management. - Interest in technical courses such as fluids, heat transfer, construction scheduling, finance, etc.
- The ability to read engineering drawings and identify work installed to track labor feedback accurately.
- Prepare job‑related logs to include RFIs, submittals, design changes and subcontractor progress/schedules.
- Learn to communicate effectively with engineers, vendors and suppliers to procure, manage and update the submittal process.
- Write and track Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Gain an understanding of construction processes and workflow.
- Hands‑on experience on the job.
- Hands‑on classroom and on‑the‑job experience in your specific role.

For California‑based internship roles, the pay rate is $26.00 per hour, in alignment with program guidelines and market standards.
