BAS Application Engineer
The BAS Application Engineer plans, organizes, manages, and monitors building automation controls projects from design through completion. This role produces detailed diagrams for automation systems, supports project managers with technical expertise, and collaborates closely with internal teams, field personnel, contractors, and sales to ensure projects are delivered accurately and on time. The position offers the opportunity to grow into a leadership role within the controls engineering team over time.
Responsibilities- Plan, organize, and manage building automation controls projects to ensure timely and successful completion.
- Produce detailed diagrams and documentation for building automation and control systems, including layouts and system schematics.
- Assist project managers in overseeing multiple projects, monitoring progress, and making necessary technical adjustments to keep projects on track.
- Advise internal teams using technical expertise in HVAC, electrical systems, and building automation controls.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, sales teams, and assigned project staff to support the timely completion of each project.
- Coordinate with field personnel, contractors, and internal stakeholders to clarify design requirements and resolve issues during project execution.
- Apply engineering principles to develop system layouts, select components and wire types, and support programming of building automation systems.
- Interpret and understand what needs to be designed for building controls based on project requirements and facility layouts.
- Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Visio, and Revit to create and update design drawings and documentation.
- Support basic project management activities, including organizing project information, tracking deliverables, and communicating status updates.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of controls engineering processes and standards within the team.
- 2–7 years of industry experience in HVAC, building automation, industrial automation for facilities, or related electrical design.
- Previous work experience in HVAC, building automation, or industrial automation (facilities), OR previous experience in electrical design (building layout) using AutoCAD or Visio.
- Solid understanding of various types of HVAC systems and how they integrate with building automation controls.
- Solid understanding of electrical systems relevant to building controls and facility layouts.
- Knowledge of building automation and control systems, including system architecture and facility layout considerations.
- Ability to determine what needs to be designed for building controls based on project and facility requirements.
- Engineering experience with system layouts, component selection, wire selection, programming support, project management support, and design documentation.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or Visio for creating and modifying electrical and control system drawings.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for collaborating with project managers, sales, contractors, and internal teams.
Skills & Qualifications
- Revit experience for creating and coordinating building and system models.
- Familiarity with computer networking concepts as they relate to building automation systems.
- OSHA 10 Certification.
- Experience working with building automation systems and controls in a design-build environment.
- Interest in growing into a leadership role within a controls engineering team over time.
This is an on-site position working Monday through Friday with flexibility on start times. After approximately two years, there may be an opportunity for some hybrid work flexibility depending on performance and business needs. The role operates within a full-service design-build contracting environment focused on building automation and controls, collaborating closely with engineering, project management, and field teams.
