Job Description SummaryThe Senior Mechanical Plant Engineer provides direction and monitoring of maintenance activities and small capital projects within assigned buildings and areas. The role is responsible for defining, organizing, planning, and executing small capital investment projects to be cost-effective, timely, and safe, while maintaining compliance with engineering practices, regulations, and Evonik policies.
Responsibilities- Owner’s Representative for Facilities Engineering:
Leading HVAC and mechanical systems at Evonik Tippecanoe Laboratories. - HVAC & Mechanical Systems Leadership:
Ensuring optimal performance and reliability across complex environments. - Multi-Building Facility Scope:
Overseeing sixteen buildings within Facilities Management. - Critical Laboratory Systems:
Operating safe, compliant fume hood systems. - Utility Systems Oversight:
Managing fire protection and boiler systems. - Consultative Site-Wide Role:
Acting as trusted technical advisor across cross‑functional teams. - Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Supporting daily maintenance and rapid issue resolution. - Process Improvement:
Identifying and implementing efficiency, reliability, and safety enhancements. - Project Leadership:
Managing small capital and technical change projects from concept to completion. - Regulatory & Safety Compliance:
Maintaining safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. - Training & Talent Development:
Mentoring junior engineering staff. - Engineering Documentation:
Developing and maintaining specifications, standards, and work instructions. - Cross‑Functional
Collaboration:
Working with production, quality, process engineering, and maintenance teams. - Integrated Engineering Impact:
Delivering a holistic approach to facilities engineering.
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 5+ years of plant engineering experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical manufacturing environment.
- Strong HVAC expertise (design, operation, and troubleshooting).
- Proven project management skills with experience leading engineering projects.
- Knowledge of safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Experience with mechanical systems, utilities, and infrastructure in a regulated plant.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and cross‑functional teamwork abilities.
