Professional Geologist – Supervising Engineering Geologist
Salary: $12,562.00 – $15,724.00 per month. New to state candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification.
Working ConditionsLocated in Bakersfield, CA. This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule based on operational needs, with employees required to work in‑person at 11000 River Run Blvd, Bakersfield, CA 93311. Candidates who reside outside of California may be admitted to the interview process as long as proof of residence is provided prior to appointment.
Responsibilities- Act under the general direction of the Underground Injection Control (UIC) Supervising Oil and Gas Engineer to review and approve submitted geologic work, including UIC reviews, complex geologic project reviews, and aquifer exemption evaluations.
- Lead and coordinate the review and completion of complex geologic projects, including planning, organizing, managing, and delivering such work.
- Exercise good judgment and communicate effectively with CalGEM management and staff.
- Serve as responsible charge and mentor for geologic work performed by CalGEM’s unlicensed geologic and engineering staff.
- Professional Geologist license in good standing.
- Pass the examination for this classification if new to California state service.
- Experience in reviewing and approving UIC and complex geologic projects.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbally and in writing).
- Good interpersonal skills and teamwork ability.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple assignments.
