What does an Environmental Planner do?
Before a highway gets built, a building goes up, or land gets developed, someone has to figure out the environmental impact and navigate the regulations. An Environmental Planner assesses how proposed projects affect natural resources, communities, and ecosystems, and ensures they comply with environmental laws.
Responsibilities- Review environmental impact assessments and evaluate habitat data.
- Analyze stormwater management plans and develop mitigation strategies.
- Write sections of environmental impact statements (EIS).
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies to determine permit requirements.
- Engage with developers, government agencies, community groups, and environmental consultants.
- Balance stakeholder interests while maintaining scientific integrity.
- Ensure compliance with NEPA, CEQA, and other relevant environmental regulations.
