Radar Engineer Lead

Job Overview

Amentum is seeking a Radar Engineer Lead to support the Space Force Range Contract (SFRC). The role involves designing, developing, modifying, evaluating, and implementing radar hardware systems, coordinating with multidisciplinary project teams, and providing technical leadership.

• Design, develop, modify, and implement complex radar hardware and support systems.
• Assist the radar lead engineer with technical aspects of projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Conduct system modeling, simulation, and analysis to recommend technical solutions.
• Execute testing (Level1,2,3) to qualify hardware for range operations.
• Plan, conduct, and support project execution.
• Develop and recommend design approaches for products and processes.
• Coordinate technical support personnel for assigned projects.
• Analyze and implement approaches to meet range requirements.
• Review literature, patents, and current practices to support business requirements.
• Prepare reports on new technology for management and stakeholders.
• Evalue component suppliers and maintain vendor relationships.
• Serve as interface for project information for internal management and customers.
• Provide leadership and guidance to less experienced personnel.
• Assist in depot repairs of line replaceable units (LRUs) and engineering support for Level2 requests.
• Identify, document, and prioritize radar subsystem needs and risks.

• 5+ years of experience with RF and radar systems.
• Experience with Windows‑based computers and the Microsoft Office suite.
• Fundamental knowledge of RF components (local oscillators, duplexers, mixers, attenuators, amplifiers).
• Knowledge of radar tracking antenna systems, servo systems, and monopulse tracking.
• Experience with high‑power tube and solid‑state RF amplifiers.
• Experience with C‑band pulsed Doppler tracking and wideband coherent imaging systems (desired).
• Familiarity with legacy range radars (AN/FPQ‑6, AN/FPQ‑14, AN/FPS‑16) and digital interface design.
• Understanding of hardware integration and testing, systems engineering lifecycle, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
• Proficiency with test equipment such as VOMs, spectrum analyzers, and oscilloscopes.
• Technical writing skills for reports and documentation.
• Familiarity with Linux and Windows operating systems.

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related STEM field.

The annual starting salary for this position is between $130,000 and $150,000, based on geography, skills, experience, and other factors.
