The Division of Regional Assistance is searching for an Associate Safety Engineer who enjoys interacting with a diverse workforce and will help us safely perform our duties and go home at the end of the day. The candidate will travel across the state to Division offices in Red Bluff, Sacramento, Fresno, Glendale, and many places in between, providing safety engineering support at project sites and state facilities.

The role may involve boating on California waterways, driving through urban and remote landscapes, and traveling to remote locations on overnight and sometimes longer trips. As the Division’s safety leader, the engineer will help build a strong safety system and culture.

Special Requirements

This position requires possession of a valid State of California driver’s license, operation of a motor vehicle on public and private roadways, including rough, uneven, and unmaintained roadways, travel by boat and commercial airlines, and travel to remote locations on overnight and sometimes longer trips.

Desirable Qualifications

The applicant must exercise competent independent judgment; analyze situations accurately and take effective action; work cooperatively with others, including DWR staff, contractors, and the public; maintain consistent and regular attendance. The position also requires the applicant to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, recommend, and implement controls for environmental and physical hazards that can affect the health and safety of workers. Strong communication skills are required, including leading the Division’s safety subcommittee meetings, presenting safety information to audiences, and providing training to staff.
