- Own end-to-end requirements development, design, analysis, test, qualification, and lifecycle management.
- Perform hand calculations and straightforward FEA / CFD tasks.
- Take sole ownership of hardware development from clean-sheet through high-rate production across multiple components of the Parallax PE-10.
- Collaborate with other responsible engineers to define interface requirements and manage coupled interactions.
- Collaborate with analysts to derive loads, environments, and response characteristics of hardware across its operating envelope.
- Develop and execute test and qualification plans for hardware.
- Analyze test and qualification data to derive margins and iterate on designs.
- Collaborate with production to develop and execute prototype, low-rate, and full-rate production while balancing performance, cost, and complexity.
- Flex across multiple disciplines and scopes as necessary.
Owns the aerodynamic design of axial-compressor and turbine airfoils across the engine: transonic, mid- and final-stage compressor blades & vanes; compressor-turbine (CT) and power-turbine (PT) blades & vanes; and PT / mid-turbine-frame flowpath. Two scopes – transonic compressor blades and power-turbine blades – are Staff-RE leads. Crossover is encouraged: compressor turbine aero, aeroaeromechanics, aerosecondary-air.
Minimum Education- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Master's or PhD preferred (a turbo machinery PhD can substitute for some experience).
- 4-8 years of turbo machinery aerodynamic design or a turbo machinery PhD plus ~2 years.
- 3+ years of blade/vane aerodynamic design from 1D meanline through 3D CFD.
- Rig and/or engine test experience (instrumentation, data reduction, correlation).
- Aeromechanics / aeroelasticity exposure desirable.
- Axial compressor and/or turbine aerodynamic design (1D / 2D / 3D).
- CFD and numerical methods; loss, secondary-flow and tip-clearance modeling.
- Blade/vane parameterization and design optimization.
- Python and/or MATLAB; 2D/3D CAD (Solid Works, CATIA, NX/ProE, etc.).
