The maintenance engineering specialist provides operational support in the management of the roadway maintenance program. Responsibilities are performed under direct supervision.

SpecialConsiderations and Qualifications not stated in the Job Specifications:
- Utilizes computer programs such as word, excel, access, outlook, and various other computer software programs to perform duties.
- Assist with winter operations which could include plowing snow, scheduling and assigning personnel and working at the emergency operations center (EOC).
- Work with maintenance office and the pavement specialist in order to understand the complexities of keeping pavements in good conditions.
- Handling setting up and administering maintenance contracts.
- Supports maintenance staff in developing and revising maintenance policies, and Engineering Policy Guide procedures and guidelines.
- Assists in the analysis and preparation of maintenance related reports, correspondence, records, and presentations.
- Inspects field operations, work zones, buildings, communications networks, and road conditions, and assists in the preparation of related recommendations, correspondence, and reports.
- Supports the bridge inspection program, as needed.
- Supports the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates for roadway maintenance contracts.
- Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET-certified college or university curriculum.
- Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
- A postsecondary degree is the best measure to ensure candidates possess required engineering knowledge, including in applied physics and mathematics, drafting, engineering processes and procedures, project management, industry ethical standards, and analyzing and modeling data.
