The Budget and Fiscal Analysis Branch (BFAB) plays a vital role in managing the financial resources that support essential services for millions of Californians. Our team provides strategic and technical guidance for the DMV’s multibillion‑dollar budget, ensuring responsible stewardship of public funds and informed fiscal decision‑making.
We are seeking a highly analytical and motivated Budget & Fiscal Analyst to join our Cost Accounting Team.

Key ResponsibilitiesAs part of the Cost Accounting team, you will:
- Perform complex cost analyses at the direction of the unit manager
- Collaborate with assigned divisions to gather, calculate, and validate resource allocations, activities, and cost objects within an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) system
- Analyze model results and reports for completeness and accuracy
- Develop, maintain, enhance, and publish ABC reports and dashboards for end‑users
- Prepare fiscal analyses of legislative bills in partnership with the DMV Legislation Office
- Produce ad hoc financial reports and special cost studies
- Present findings and recommendations to executive management and external agencies (virtually or in person)
Qualifications:
- Interest in public service, budgeting, or fiscal operations
- Strong analytical skills in budgeting, workload analysis, accounting, and/or organizational planning
- Background in accounting or cost accounting
- Experience preparing analytical reports and statistical summaries
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Advanced Excel skills (multi‑step calculations, formulas, data analysis)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Access (import/export, queries, database design)
- Familiarity with product or cost management software
- Knowledge of costing methodologies and financial principles
- Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize under tight deadlines
- Experience following complex, multi‑tiered processes
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Detail‑oriented with excellent workload management skills
