Under the general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) III, the Supervising Tax Auditor (STA) II supervises an audit team on the most challenging audits within the unit, including specialized civil tax fraud audits relating to various taxes administered by the California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA). The STA II participates in the hiring process, trains staff, plans, assigns, and evaluates the work performed by auditors, and communicates with taxpayers regarding issues, solutions, tax laws, and the appeal process.
The STA II also serves as the Audit Selector and attends Petition Hearings and Appeals conferences. The STA II may act for the Audit Principal and handle special projects as needed.
Positions in California require the incumbent to travel up to fifty percent (50%) of the time, including overnight travel, and may qualify for partial telework under Government Code 14200 for eligible candidates residing in California. All staff must report to the office a minimum number of days per week.
