Revenue Tax Auditor

We’re looking for a Revenue Tax Auditor to join our Field Audit Income Tax Division to perform in-state and out-of-state field audits of businesses and corporations to ensure compliance with Louisiana tax laws, regulations and policies, and the collection of taxes due!

• Three years of experience in tax accounting or tax auditing; or
• Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; or
• A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; or
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; or
• An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics, or a Juris Doctorate; or
• Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license or a current Louisiana license to practice law.

Experience substitution:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience toward the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours, which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

• Perform in-state and out-of-state field audits of the most complex businesses and corporations.
• Coordinate tax audits for various tax types including Corporation Income, Franchise, Personal Income, Sales/Use, Severance, International Fuel Tax Agreement, Tobacco, Motor Fuel, Natural Gas Franchise and other taxes administered by the Department of Revenue.
• Conduct field audit administration duties for two or more tax types.
• Independently examine financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes of large complex national and international corporations to determine correct Louisiana tax liability.
• Travel to out-of-state metropolitan areas to conduct examinations of the most complex taxpayer’s financial statements, accounting records, tax reports, and operational processes to determine tax liability.

Appointment Type: Probational Appointment, Job Appointment, Promotion, or Detail to Special Duty.

Career Progression: This position may be filled as a Revenue Tax Auditor 1, 2 or 3.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

Special Entrance Rates (SER) have been established for each level. See below:

• Revenue Tax Auditor 1 (AS-614): $21.33 per hour; $1,706.40 biweekly.
• Revenue Tax Auditor 2 (AS-615): $22.82 per hour; $1,825.60 biweekly.
• Revenue Tax Auditor 3 (AS-617): $25.21 per hour; $2,016.80 biweekly.

All selected applicants will undergo Tax and Natural Disaster Clearance to validate timely submission of tax returns and payments. A criminal history records check is required for prospective employees who will access federal tax information. Those who accept a conditional offer must complete the check prior to the first day of work.
