Position Overview

Martin Structures Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Controller to oversee the company’s financial operations and support continued growth. This role is responsible for managing accounting functions, financial reporting, budgeting, cash flow management, and internal controls across multiple construction projects and business operations.

The Controller will play a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the organization by providing accurate reporting, strengthening financial processes, and delivering actionable insights to leadership. Working closely with the ownership and management team, this individual will help drive operational efficiency, profitability, and long-term business success.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting and construction industry experience, exceptional analytical skills, and a commitment to financial accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, job costing, and general ledger.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.
  • Monitor project profitability and provide regular reporting on job performance and costs.
Budgeting & Forecasting
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with company leadership.
  • Monitor financial performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Develop forecasts and financial models to support strategic planning, growth initiatives, and capital investments.
  • Track project budgets and identify opportunities to improve margins and operational efficiency.
Compliance & Internal Controls
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and strengthen internal controls to protect company assets and ensure financial accuracy.
  • Coordinate annual audits, reviews, and tax preparation activities with external accounting partners.
  • Manage insurance reporting, licensing requirements, and other financial compliance obligations.
Cash Flow & Treasury Management
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, and liquidity to support ongoing construction operations.
  • Manage banking relationships, lines of credit, and financing activities.
  • Oversee cash management strategies and support long-term financial planning.
  • Ensure timely collections and effective payment management.
Construction Accounting & Job Costing
  • Maintain accurate job costing systems and project financial reporting.
  • Review labor, materials, subcontractor, and overhead costs for accuracy and profitability analysis.
  • Partner with project managers and operations leaders to monitor project performance and control costs.
  • Support contract management, change order tracking, and revenue recognition processes.
Systems & Process Improvement
  • Evaluate and improve accounting systems, financial reporting tools, and workflows.
  • Implement efficiencies, automation, and best practices where appropriate.
  • Maintain documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and controls.
  • Support technology initiatives that enhance financial visibility and operational performance.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to ownership and senior leadership.
