The Department of Water Resources is seeking a strategic and visionary leader to serve as the State Water Project (SWP) Long-Term Planning Officer. In this leadership role, you will guide long-range planning, risk management, and policy development to ensure the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of the SWP, an essential system serving over 27 million Californians and supporting hundreds of thousands of acres of agriculture.
Responsibilities- Lead long-term planning strategy and policy development to address evolving challenges such as climate change, infrastructure risk, and future water supply reliability.
- Direct and coordinate multidisciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and technical experts conducting modeling, climate action planning, and risk and resilience initiatives.
- Establish planning frameworks, priorities, and policies that guide capital investments, infrastructure improvements, and operational strategies across the SWP.
- Serve as a key liaison with local, state, and federal partners, water agencies, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance collaborative solutions and informed decision‑making.
- Communicate complex water management issues clearly to executive leadership, policymakers, and the public, helping shape California’s long‑term water strategy.
