Captain, Administration and Operations Bureaus
The University Police Department seeks a Captain to provide leadership, management, and motivation for the Administration and Operations Bureaus, which deliver 24‑hour police services to the campus community.
Key Responsibilities- Manage department programs and provide strategic leadership of operational units, including oversight of field situations, resource allocation, and performance management.
- Apply modern public safety administration principles to support a diverse and inclusive workforce.
- Command one of the two bureaus:
Operations Bureau (Patrol, Investigations, Protective Services, Emergency Preparedness) or Administration Bureau (Parking Services, Professional Standards, Informational Services). - Oversee Internal Affairs investigations and maintain community‑oriented policing strategy.
- Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and community stakeholders to ensure superior customer service and a safe campus environment.
- Maintain contacts with local, state, and federal law‑enforcement agencies and promote best practices.
- Proficient in public safety administration, patrol procedures, criminal investigations, emergency response planning, major incident command, crime prevention, community policing, traffic safety, and relevant laws and regulations.
- Demonstrates high ethical standards, effective written and oral communication, and professional presentation in uniform or business attire.
- Capable of analytical problem‑solving, data collection, and operational decision making.
- Familiar with law‑enforcement equipment, including firearms, impact weapons, arrest equipment, emergency vehicles, and communication systems.
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in law enforcement and management.
- Valid California Driver’s License.
- POST Management Certificate.
- Master’s Degree in a related field.
- Graduation from the FBI National Academy or equivalent leadership training.
- Classification:
Administrator III. - Estimated salary range: $15,051–$15,435 per month.
- Benefits package valued at 30–35% of base salary.
