Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Staff Management Auditor, the Associate Management Auditor (AMA) works independently with limited supervision to perform internal audit functions for the department. The AMA acts as the lead auditor, provides direction for other auditors, and may conduct highly sensitive special investigations. The AMA evaluates the department’s internal control structure as required by Government Code 13405(a) and is proficient in all aspects of audit planning, testing, conclusion development, and report writing.
The role requires knowledge of the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPEIA) and Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS), as well as a fiscal education and background. Travel may be required up to 30% of the time.
The position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule with in‑office days as needed. The role requires completion of Form 700 for the Conflict of Interest Code and participation in the DMV Pull Program, which requires a valid driver’s license. Travel up to 30% of the work schedule may also be required.
Responsibilities- Lead internal audit projects and coordinate support from other auditors.
- Plan audit engagements and evaluate control structures.
- Design and perform tests of transactions and controls.
- Analyze audit findings and develop sound conclusions.
- Prepare detailed written audit reports and present findings to stakeholders.
- Conduct specialized investigations of sensitive matters when required.
- Travel as needed, up to 30% of the work schedule.
- Proficiency with ISPEIA and GAGAS standards.
- Strong knowledge of internal audit principles and procedures.
- Experience with audit planning, testing, reporting, and investigation.
- Fiscal education and background.
- Ability to work independently and provide direction to other auditors.
- Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
- Knowledge of government auditing standards, laws, regulations, and policies.
- Experience with contract, procurement, and accounting systems.
