Emergency Classification: Class I
The Maintenance Specialist 1 is under the direction of the Litter Abatement Coordinator or his designee and is an entry level position. The Maintenance Specialist 1 is required to perform manual labor.
Essential Job Functions- Required to perform manual labor as directed
- Work as crew picking up litter on public rights of way and dump sites
- Assist in the disposal of litter that has been collected
- Be courteous and responsive when dealing with the public
- Complete and submit all paperwork required in a neat and timely manner
- Practice safety measures when on parish property
- Work additional hours as required during emergency situations
- Regular, consistent attendance is required
- Any other duties as assigned
Employee must have knowledge of general traffic rules and safety principles.
Work EnvironmentThe primary duties of this position are performed in the field. The field includes high traffic and open areas of empty land which might include swampy, wet conditions and exposure to wildlife and insects. This position is not limited to the field and includes an office environment to complete necessary documents pertaining to the job.
Physical DemandsMedium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties.
Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.
Position requires a valid Driver’s License.
