Job Summary Customer Service Specialist
Delivers exceptional, customer-focused service across the division while performing complex administrative and clerical functions in support of the Code Enforcement Division. Responsibilities include processing permits, citations, and inspection documentation; assisting residents and contractors with permits, licenses and compliance inquiries; and maintaining accurate case and regulatory records. Exercises independent judgment, maintains strict confidentiality, and applies thorough knowledge of departmental policies and enforcement procedures.

- Permit Processing
:
Review applications, verify documentation, and issue permits. - Inspection Scheduling
:
Coordinate inspection schedules and communicate with inspectors. - Customer Service
:
Assist citizens and contractors with inquiries regarding permits and inspections. - Data Entry
:
Maintain accurate permit and inspection data in software systems. - Training Support
:
Train and cross-train staff on procedures and systems. - Reporting
:
Prepare routine reports on permits, fees, and compliance activities. - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines
:
Ability to interpret and explain permitting requirements. - Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships
:
Skill in preparing correspondence and maintaining electronic files. - Knowledge of payment processing and cash handling procedures

Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks, as may be assigned.
Position RequirementsEducation and Experience
The following are the minimum education and experience required for the position. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
EducationHS diploma or GED
Experience3 years previous relevant work experience is required.
LicensingMay require a valid State Driver’s License

- Knowledge of licensing or permitting procedures and workflows.
- Ability to interpret and explain permitting requirements.

- Knowledge of payment processing and cash handling procedures.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment.
- Skill in front-counter operations and phone support.
- Skill in de-escalation and managing difficult customer interactions.
- Ability to interpret and explain procedures, forms, and requirements.
- Ability to manage high-volume public interactions efficiently.
- Ability to maintain professionalism under pressure.
- Skill in accurate data entry and verifying documentation.

- Some situations may require early morning or late evening hours.

- Work requires the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or crawl.
