Overview

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services, Louisiana State Penitentiary, Angola, LA. This position is for a Correctional Officer with EMT certification. The Louisiana Department of Corrections seeks dependable and fair individuals to fill a correctional officer role. This front-line position enforces custody and control of inmates in a state penal institution and contributes to day-to-day facility operations and rehabilitation efforts.

Responsibilities
  • Four week Correctional Officer Training Academy.
  • Work closely with inmates in a State prison facility.
  • Custody and security of inmates in facility buildings, dorms, workshops, and/or fields.
  • Supervise housekeeping of inmate housing areas, escort prisoners, investigate suspicious activities, and perform security searches/shakedowns of inmates, property, living quarters, and work locations.
  • Supervise inmate work crews, patrol prison areas, and transport inmates as assigned.
  • Follow directions from upper-level officers and departmental policies and regulations.
  • Will receive firearms training.
Position Details

Appointment Type: probation or promotion of a permanent, classified Louisiana State employee. Current permanent status employees may be required to accept a probationary appointment if selected. A promotion may require a trial detail before permanent promotion. Temporary postings may be filled with potential conversion to permanent status if a position becomes available.

EMT Responsibilities
  • Work in an emergency room setting to assess, treat, and stabilize the sick/injured.
  • Function as a triage medic to prioritize calls when multiple calls are received.
  • Perform sick calls for the inmate population and assess their needs.
  • Must have a valid Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic license and be nationally and state registered with the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians and the Louisiana Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
Qualifications
  • Possession of a high school diploma or GED or higher; or one year of experience in any field.
  • Possession of a current driver’s license.
  • In accordance with PREA, applicants with certain histories may be disqualified unless relief is granted.
  • Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
  • Necessarily, an applicant who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence or a felony, or who is under indictment on a felony charge, will be disqualified until relief is granted.

  • Application requires authorization for reference checks under PREA; answering YES to PREA questions is required to be considered.
  • Official documentation is required to verify any degree, certificate, or license, including DD-214.
  • Transcripts may be required for qualifying experience based on college credit hours.
  • This is a 24-hour facility; applicants may be required to shift work. This agency is a Drug Free Workplace.
