Overview
Public Information Officer – State Water Project (Information Officer II) leads the coordination, development, and implementation of internal and external communication for the State Water Project (SWP) of the Department of Water Resources (DWR).
Responsibilities- Coordinate media and public information messaging.
- Plan and implement communication and outreach strategies.
- Develop crisis communications plans and respond to emergencies.
- Serve as DWR spokesperson for media on program issues, including flooding and other DWR operations.
- Manage assigned projects, ensuring timely completion of milestones and alignment with department messaging and quality standards.
- Information Officer II classification.
- Valid California driver’s license; CDL required.
- Strong leadership, project management, communication, and marketing experience.
- Ability to forge partnerships with department managers and respond effectively to public comments on high‑impact issues.
- Occasional work outside normal business hours and on weekends.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information in plain language.
- Experience in crisis or emergency communications.
- Ability to build productive relationships with staff, management, stakeholders, media, and the public.
- Knowledge of California water issues or the ability to quickly become educated on these topics.
