The Environmental Services Inspector, in cooperation with the LA Department of Health, will conduct inspections for a comprehensive parish-wide sewerage inspection program. Responsibilities include investigating complaints of unsanitary conditions and recommending corrective action.

- Conduct field investigations, inquiries, and inspections of sewerage and water systems to determine compliance with law, ordinances, standards, codes, and rules and regulations
- Document complaints
- Interpret laboratory analysis data, enter findings into database, and render written reports to review with customer as appropriate
- Respond to and take appropriate action at any incident or emergency situation, the result of which may put at risk protection of public health and the environment
- Regular, consistent attendance is required
- Any other duties as assigned
Employee must be able to operate basic office equipment, office computer and software and any other specialty equipment as may be required. Must have excellent customer service and interpersonal skill and be able to communicate effectively using excellent written and oral communication skills. Must have strong organizational and time management skills, ability to multi-task, follow through and perform on a deadline.
Employee must have the ability to work independently and as well as with other staff, and have the ability to work effectively with the public to resolve issues.
The incumbent typically performs in an outdoor environment. This includes improved properties, construction sites, open and empty land, wooded areas, both urban and rural roads and drainage, muddy areas, swampy areas, hot, humid, cold, and wet conditions that are consistent with outdoor projects. The incumbent may also be exposed to wildlife and bugs in the environment. This position may also include work performed in an office environment for training, plan reviews, meetings, data entry, project preparation, and progress reviews.
PhysicalDemands
Medium work. Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting, lowering, pulling, pushing and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. If someone can do medium work, we determine that he or she can also do sedentary and light work. Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel and climb in order to complete various job duties.
Must be able to stand, sit and walk for extended periods, sometimes on uneven or rough terrain in various weather conditions.
A high school diploma or equivalent GED and minimum one year of work experience relevant to the position. Employee must become familiar with codes, laws, ordinances and applicable provisions. Must have a valid driver’s license.
