JOB SUMMARY
Investigates and documents violations of the Solid Waste and Public Nuisance Ordinances. Conducts inspections, issues citations, and maintains accurate case documentation. May assist in training new inspectors.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Inspection:
Perform field inspections to identify violations of Solid Waste and Public Nuisance Ordinances. - Documentation:
Photograph, record, and document violations using approved forms and databases. - Case Management:
Maintain accurate case files, issue notices of violation, and track compliance deadlines. - Public Interaction:
Communicate with property owners to explain violations and provide corrective guidance. - Coordination:
Work with law enforcement and other County departments to address ongoing or repeat violations. - Court Preparation:
Prepare documentation and appear in court as needed to support enforcement actions.
The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks, as may be assigned.

Position Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE – The following are the minimum education and experience required for the position. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Education
- HS diploma or GED
Experience
- 4-5 years previous relevant work experience is required.
Special Experience
- Education or experience in code enforcement, municipal/county work or any closely related field.

- Must possess a valid State Driver's License.

- Knowledge of solid waste and public nuisance ordinances and related enforcement processes.
- Ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal environmental regulations.

- Ability to communicate clearly with residents, contractors, and other agencies.
- Knowledge of inspection safety practices and hazardous material handling.
- Ability to prepare enforcement documentation and maintain accurate inspection files.
- Skill in interpreting environmental laws and providing education to the public.
- Knowledge of solid waste disposal and recycling procedures.
- Ability to maintain detailed logs and ensure case accuracy.
- Ability to interpret property descriptions and mapping for enforcement boundaries.
- Skill in the use of digital cameras and mobile inspection applications.
- Ability to review and follow up on abatement compliance actions.
- Knowledge of waste management operations and environmental best practices.
- Ability to prepare correspondence and coordinate with multiple agencies.
- Ability to interpret data, maintain compliance logs, and produce accurate reports.

Tape measure, Levels, Moisture meter, Smoke detector tester, Vehicle, Two-way radio, Mobile phone, Digital camera, Safety gear (hard hat, vest, boots).digital camera; vehicle; measuring tools; communication radio.
WORK ENVIRONMENT or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of this job.
- Combination of office and fieldwork. Field inspections conducted outdoors and in active construction areas with exposure to varying weather conditions.
- Requires some work during irregular work hours and some overtime commitment.
- May be required to work in high or dangerous places.
- May regularly be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.
- May be required to work in confined spaces.
- May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
- Work may potentially involve risk of exposure to electric shock.
- Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time.
