Key Responsibilities ADVOCACY
- Collaborate with the President + CEO, lobbying firm(s), and others, as appropriate to develop and set advocacy objectives
- Analyze local and regional legislation and regulations to determine industry impact, potential resolution pathways, and implementation plans
- Compile, maintain, and analyze information on local and regional legislative and regulatory issues relevant to the hotel industry
- Develop advocacy materials, including position papers, testimony, talking points, and letters supporting positions of the association
- Develop and execute grassroots advocacy campaigns, including drafting member calls to action, advocacy letters, and other engagement initiatives to mobilize stakeholders in support of CHLA's legislative and regulatory priorities
- Build and maintain beneficial relationships within the legislative and regulatory spheres
- Coordinate meetings with policymakers and/or their representatives, stakeholders, and members
- Participate in coalitions and internal and external stakeholder groups of relevance to CHLA’s policy goals and benefit
- In coordination with lobbying firm(s), compliance counsel and PAC administrators as well as CHLA resources, advise on local and regional fundraising activities and PAC expenditures to maximize the impact of allocations
- Ensure up-to-date advocacy and regulatory information is disseminated to stakeholders weekly
- Ensure up-to-date advocacy and regulatory information is included on CHLA’s website(s) appropriately
- Develop clear and concise legislative, regulatory, and other politically-related information and updates for members (and the industry, as appropriate) in coordination with the President + CEO. Ensure this type of content is considered for appropriate internal use (such as CHLA and/or BHOC newsletters, CHLA‘s Magazine, Alerts/Advisories, etc.) and/or for use in external communication distribution vehicles
- Work with the CHLA team and other consultants to implement external proactive communications strategies on key issues and industry needs
- Assist, as assigned, in legislative outreach to engage and organize interested parties to testify and attend hearings in support of CHLA positions when appropriate
- Identification of appropriate legislators and/or public officials to attend key events, and assist in conducting tours for legislators at events
- Participate in the Advocacy Advisory Committee (AAC), including assisting in developing agendas, preparing clear, concise, and visually engaging presentations and meeting materials, coordinating monthly meetings, and ensuring effective follow-up on committee priorities
- In coordination with lobbying firm(s), direct, coordinate and attend meetings with elected officials and regulatory officials for pertinent issues
- Oversee legislative events and meetings (in coordination with CHLA’s Meetings Manager), including guest speakers (as appropriate), legislators, attendee planning, event invite oversight, venue selection, date selection, and more as required
- Prepare timely updates for CHLA Board of Directors meetings, and draft monthly advocacy reports for the President + CEO's Board communications
- Staff/support leadership groups, including managed associations Aand other coalition partners, such as TID Partners and other legislative-related committee and task force meetings which may include developing legislative & regulatory agendas, documenting or approving meeting minutes, delivering appropriate reports and producing related meeting materials
- In coordination with the lobbying firm(s), review local and regional bills and legislation introduced or under consideration, for their impact on the hotel industry, maintaining weekly/monthly tracking of all local and regional hotel-related bills
- Ensure geographic legislative information is up-to-date in Salesforce and related software systems, coordinating with the Technology Director where appropriate
- Utilization of grassroots software systems, coordinate with the Technology Director to do query reports and maintain contact lists related to advocacy issues
