Position: Animal Bite and Dispatch Coordinator (Office Services Coordinator)
Location: Olivette

The Animal Bite and Dispatch Coordinator supports the Animal Control Officer Team administratively to ensure the safety of the community and its animals. Works closely with the Communicable Disease team to track Rabies exposure and reporting.

Weekend work is required.

The typical starting salary range is starting at $18.52-$22.22 per hour depending upon the candidates qualifications as well as budgetary considerations.   • Handling the administrative portion of animal bite investigations, including making contact with animal owners, explaining bite quarantine procedures and restrictions, and advising on St. Louis County animal ordinances.
  • Managing bite quarantine animals and release dates, and scheduling with owners to pick up or drop off their pets.
  • Issuing citations and mailing to St. Louis County Courts.
  • Managing communications with other St. Louis County departments, State Laboratories, Police Departments, and Veterinary offices.
  • Collecting payments and managing compliance of fee payments.
  • Receiving and handling evidence for animal investigations.
  • Managing rabies specimens and their transport.
  • Answering phones and emails to answer questions and provide guidance to citizens.
  • Managing and filing animal bite and intake records.
  • Collecting information and dispatching calls to Animal Control Officers in accordance with priority level procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements & Availability
  • Ability to safely handle, walk, restrain, and transport animals of various sizes and temperaments, including aggressive or injured animals. This includes, but is not limited to, the consistent handling of dogs and cats.
  • May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally.

Four years' experience in a general office environment preferably within an animal care setting; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

SELECTION AND APPOINTMENT

A selection committee will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment. After initial interviews with the selected candidates are conducted, an email will be sent to the address on file with instructions on how to complete and submit a Conviction Questionnaire. Candidates have 3 days to complete the required questionnaire.

The five top ranking candidates, based on the final grade, will be certified to the Department Director/Appointing Authority who will make the final decision.
