Job Description and Duties

Are you looking for a career where you can make a difference? Interested in the prospect of analyzing financial documents to detect skimming, money laundering or other illegal banking activities? The Bureau of Gambling Control is looking for talented and motivated Auditors to travel throughout the state performing on-site evaluations of financial records of gambling establishments including, but not limited to:

Conduct the more routine and straightforward responsibilities and duties related to on-site evaluations of financial records of gambling establishments and Tribal audits. Apply accounting and auditing principles and procedures to work performed and document in audit work papers.

Ensure that the methodologies used are consistent with audit program standards.

Assist senior auditor in verifying that audit schedules and narratives are complete and that audit findings are properly supported and explained in applicable work papers.

Attend entrance and exit conferences of different types of audits as well as interview gambling establishment personnel.

Communicate with internal and external stakeholders via email and/or phone.

Utilize computer programs to analyze and organize financial data and draw sound conclusions.

Access and maintain audit data and files.

  • This position is the Division of Law Enforcement, Bureau of Gambling Control, Audits & Compact Compliance Section located in Los Angeles.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

An educational background in auditing and/or accounting is highly desirable. Knowledge of governmental and gaming industry standards and procedures relating to auditing and accounting; knowledge and experience of investigative concepts and practices; proven managerial and administrative skills; and ability to independently apply complex laws and regulations. Should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills; exercise good judgment, and work well under pressure.

Audits may take place in casinos on sovereign Tribal land where smoking may be permitted; travel may be required in and outside of California.
