Job Title: Surgical Technician
Company: St. Louis Eye Surgery & Laser Center
Location: Des Peres, MO
Hours: PRN. You may work 3–5 days per week for the first couple of months while training. After that, you will typically work 1–2 days per week. The office is open Monday–Friday from 5:30am–6:00pm; shifts may start as early as 5:30am and end in early/mid-afternoon depending on the surgery schedule for the day. You may occasionally be scheduled outside these times as needed.
Responsibilities- Assist in surgical operations under the supervision of Surgeons, Registered Nurses and Surgical Assistants.
- Support the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with Federal, State, accreditation standards and company policies.
- Assist Nurses and Surgeons in delivering high-quality patient care.
- Performs duties in an ethical and legal manner within the scope of certification.
- Comply with HIPAA regulations.
- Scrub all types of cases performed at the company; anticipate needs of the Surgeon and have equipment, gases and supplies readily available.
- Participate in continuing education/in-service training, staff meetings, and Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) programs.
- Open sterile packs according to sterile technique and prepare instruments; prepare and restock the Operating Room.
- Handle instruments, assembles supplies, and assist with patient transfer to PACU when needed.
- Maintain records of medications, specimens, implants, and other items used in the field; assist with specimen handling for laboratory analysis.
- Operate OR equipment (sterilizer, lights, suction, etc.) and assist with case setup and patient positioning.
- Greet orientation of new staff and contribute to a healthy work environment.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ability to prioritize, plan, and implement patient care within the scope of practice.
- Ability to handle stress and manage multiple tasks; strong manual dexterity.
- Emotionally conscientious, orderly, and stable to handle the OR environment.
- Ability to adhere to work schedule, stay organized, and manage time effectively.
- Ability to work effectively within a team and communicate clearly.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Surgical Tech experience required.
- Eye surgery experience strongly preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Knowledge of Amkai Charts Database software and Microsoft Word; proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook.
- Frequent walking (approx. 75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%); occasional bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%).
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items up to 25 lbs.
- Fine motor skills and full use of hands required; use of technology, writing, and typing.
- Visual and auditory acuity, including color and depth perception; ability to adjust focus.
- Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary.
