Schedule:
Full-time, 36 hours/week, 3x12-Hour Shifts/Week. Shift Differentials:
Available for weekends and additional shifts. Sign-On Bonus up to $20,000.
The respiratory therapist is a healthcare professional employed to perform all respiratory care diagnostic and therapeutic procedures provided by the Department of Respiratory Care. They should be energetic and motivated to support the success of a growing service. The respiratory therapist should refer to supervisory personnel in any doubtful situation.
Job Responsibilities and Requirements- Relate to coworkers in a professional and respectful manner to promote a culture of safety.
- Perform all respiratory-related therapeutic and diagnostic maneuvers in accordance with established policies and procedures of the department. This shall include: oxygen and therapeutic gas function assessment, proper setup and implementation of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures, aerosolized medication, CPT and IPV, setup and monitoring of ventilators in accordance with department and hospital policies, communication with peers and staff to develop inter- and intra-departmental services, and CPR.
- Perform diagnostic procedures including ABG analysis, pulse oximetry, and nitric oxide pulmonary hypertension studies. Assess and reassess patient status to determine care needs and response to treatment.
- Assess and reassess therapy needs: vital signs, breath sounds, physician orders, tolerance and response, oxygen requirements, sputum characteristics, and other patient observations.
- Special duties: respond to critical areas (ER, OR, Code); routine checks on life support units; assist with bronchoscopy and minor cardiopulmonary procedures; tracheotomy care; bedside procedures and interpretation of complex lab data; provide input on patient care decisions and physician consultations; support ventilator care and infection prevention in line with latest evidence-based practice.
- Assist with prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia and perform other respiratory care duties per hospital policies and procedures.
- Attend monthly department meetings and other required meetings; ensure time and attendance records are properly kept.
- Communicate with physicians regarding therapies ordered and goals; demonstrate service excellence and patient confidentiality.
- Safety and infection control: follow universal precautions and maintain a safe, clean environment; adhere to dress code and risk management reporting; complete mandatory annual requirements (Safety/Fire, Bloodborne Pathogen, Hazardous Communication, TB, department-specific, age-appropriate care where applicable, BLS/ALS).
- Quality Improvement: collect data for reporting, complete charting/charging timely, review for errors, and report discrepancies to your supervisor.
- Age-appropriate care: provide care appropriate to the patient age groups served (Infant to Adult, with Geriatric considerations).
- Specialized care: restraint care where appropriate, pain management, abuse assessment, and related evaluations as per policy.
- MINIMUM EDUCATION:
Graduate of an AMA-approved school;
Respiratory Therapy preferred. - MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
Leadership skills desirable. - REQUIRED REGISTRY OR LICENSE:
Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC);
Licensed in Missouri within 6 months of hire; BLS HCP, NBRC credentials, and state Respiratory Care Practitioner license. - INDEPENDENT ACTION:
Ability to provide high-quality therapy with moderate supervision; capable of independent decision-making in critical and non-critical care areas. - PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand/walk for extended periods, assist with patient transfers, operate and maintain respiratory equipment; capable of responding quickly in emergencies. - WORKING CONDITIONS:
Potential exposure to infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, hazardous chemicals; may work in varied and unpredictable environments; may require irregular hours.
- Familiar with therapy and diagnostic equipment; wear protective equipment as required (eye protection, gowns, lab coat, mask, gloves, lead aprons).
