The Accessioner I is responsible for accurately processing laboratory samples and supporting high-quality diagnostic testing. In this role, you catalog and manage patient specimens—primarily blood, as well as urine and tissue—so that laboratory professionals can perform analyses that inform diagnosis and treatment. You ensure specimens are received, documented, and prepared for testing and shipping in a timely and precise manner while collaborating with laboratory staff to maintain testing accuracy.
Responsibilities- Receive and triage all incoming specimens for clinical testing, ensuring proper identification and handling.
- Catalog patient specimens, primarily blood but also urine and tissue, in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Manage and maintain clinical information within the LCLS database with a high level of accuracy.
- Perform specimen tracking activities, including logging, labeling, and maintaining chain of custody.
- Prepare specimens for packing and shipping, following established protocols and regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with various laboratory and support departments to ensure testing accuracy and timely processing.
- Support a high-paced laboratory environment by prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
- Work both independently and as part of a team to maintain smooth workflow and consistent sample processing.
- 0–2 years of work experience in a laboratory, healthcare, or similar high-paced environment.
- Experience working in a fast-paced data entry and multi-tasking setting.
- Strong attention to accuracy, with the ability to maintain precise records and meet deadlines.
- Proven ability to work well independently with minimal supervision.
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Comfort working with laboratory specimens, primarily blood, as well as urine and tissue.
- Ability to learn and use laboratory information systems, including the LCLS database, for specimen and data management.
Skills & Qualifications
- AS or BS degree in biological sciences or a related discipline preferred.
- Coursework in laboratory science or related fields is beneficial.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with laboratory and support departments.
- Reliability and commitment to maintaining high standards of specimen handling and data integrity.
This role operates in a clinical laboratory setting with a focus on accurate specimen handling and data management. You will primarily work with blood samples, along with urine and tissue specimens, using laboratory information systems such as the LCLS database for tracking and managing clinical information. The schedule for this position is approximately 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with an additional Saturday shift once per month from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring consistent attention to detail, adherence to laboratory protocols, and effective teamwork to support timely and accurate clinical testing.

This is a Contract position based out of Earth City, MO.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
