ASCP Certified Inpatient Pharmacy Technician

Join a dedicated healthcare team in the heart of the Midwest region, where your skills as a Pharmacy Technician will directly support patient care and medication safety. This role involves delivering medication orders to nursing units, restocking automated dispensing cabinets, troubleshooting automation issues, and compounding both sterile and non-sterile preparations following USP standards.

• Respond promptly to medication requests from hospital staff and ensure patient needs are met.
• Provide accurate information to pharmacy staff, nursing, and physicians by researching in electronic health records and other resources.
• Participate in pharmacy and hospital improvement initiatives.
• Perform pharmacy calculations and efficiently use reference materials.
• Operate pharmacy automation systems and troubleshoot dispensing cabinet issues, coordinating with vendor technicians as needed.
• Conduct safety checks including barcode scanning and visual inspections during medication preparation and dispensing.
• Maintain competency in IV room procedures and prepare compounded sterile and non-sterile products accurately.
• Handle hazardous medications using closed‑system transfer devices according to policy.
• Ensure cleanliness and proper documentation in compliance with USP 797 standards.
• Assist in training new technicians and pharmacists based on experience.
• Support department inspections to ensure medication storage and expiration compliance.
• Engage in professional development through educational programs and literature.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.

One year of pharmacy experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Registration as a Pharmacy Technician is required prior to start. Certification as a Pharmacy Technician must be obtained within one year of employment.

This role requires considerable mental focus, standing and walking up stairs for approximately 75% of the shift, light lifting up to 25 pounds, and fine manipulation of small items such as vials and syringes.

Work is primarily performed in the pharmacy with frequent rounds to patient care units. Exposure includes refrigerator/freezer noise, automation equipment, printers, telephones, IV room noise, pressure barriers, and strong cleaning chemicals.
