As a Medical Records Technician for the State Correctional Institution (SCI) at Fayette, you will help keep important health information organized and accessible. This position gives you the opportunity to strengthen documentation processes that support medical staff and patient outcomes. You will play a key part in maintaining reliable and secure records.

This position supports the facility by maintaining organized and accurate medical records while helping develop procedures that ensure proper documentation and compliance with agency requirements. The work requires careful attention to detail due to the frequent use of multiple classifications and cross references in a single case. As a Medical Records Technician, you will perform the following duties:

  • Record Oversight:Organize and monitor integrated health records to meet documentation standards and policy requirements
  • Record Handling:File, issue, and transfer records while following confidentiality rules and legal guidelines
  • Record Review:Check records for accuracy and completeness and refer issues to appropriate health staff
  • Report Creation:Prepare statistical reports related to morbidity, mortality, and service usage
  • Court Preparation:Prepare medical records for court cases and notify staff about inmate transfers or discharge

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 60 or 65.
  • Telework:You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $46,827.00 (before taxes).

QUALIFICATIONS Special Requirement
  • You must be in possession of a valid Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certificate or a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) certificate issued by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), or have eligibility for certification including completion of an AHIMA approved RHIT or RHIA Health Information Management education program.
Post Employment Requirement
  • If you meet the Special Requirement based on the eligibility option for the RHIT or RHIA certification, you must obtain one of these certifications within 12 months of employment.
Other Requirements
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirement
  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
