Position Summary
The Human Resources Generalist – Leave of Absence (LOA) manages the day-to-day administration of employee leaves of absence and reasonable accommodation requests for both union and non-union employees. This role serves as a liaison between employees, internal stakeholders, and third-party administrators to ensure compliance with applicable laws and a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the interactive process for all leave of absence and reasonable accommodation requests.
- Partner with internal teams (Management, Health Services, HR Business Partners, Legal) and external partners (third-party leave administrators, Workers’ Compensation).
- Process and track leaves and accommodations in coordination with the third-party leave administrator, ensuring compliance with FMLA, CFRA, FEHA, USERRA, ADA, and Workers’ Compensation requirements.
- Support the processing and tracking of Disability, Workers’ Compensation, Parental, Personal, and Professional leaves in partnership with the HR Coordinator – LOA.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee inquiries related to leaves and accommodations; educate employees on policies, processes, and available resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential leave and accommodation records using HR systems and workflow tools.
- Draft and distribute employee communications throughout the leave and accommodation process.
- Provide guidance and support to HR team members and assist with additional HR functions as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred (Human Resources, Business, Communications, or related field), or certification in Leave of Absence administration.
- Minimum of two (2) years of HR experience with LOA and disability knowledge, or one (1) year of direct LOA/disability-specific HR experience.
- Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, Workers’ Compensation, and medical disability management.
Preferred Skills & Experience
- Experience in both union and non-union environments, preferably in retail or hospitality.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with SAP or other HRIS platforms preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Professional judgment, discretion, and ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
