Overview
The Principal Data Scientist position at Roche Sequencing Solutions focuses on providing deep insights into experimental data, interpreting results, and shaping research development efforts. The role is based on‑site in Santa Clara, CA. Relocation benefits are not offered.
Responsibilities- Analyze large datasets to identify hidden patterns, correlations, and anomalies.
- Apply statistical methods and machine learning algorithms to extract meaningful insights.
- Design and execute Design of Experiments (DOE) for biological and assay development experiments, drawing conclusions from small sample sizes.
- Provide statistical analysis of experimental results and communicate findings to internal stakeholders in an approachable manner.
- Collaborate across functions to integrate analytical or inferential routines into pipelines through software engineering efforts, resulting in validated internal software products for experimentalists.
- Utilize AI‑based tools for data analysis and develop AI‑based support tools for internal customers.
- Create clear and informative visualizations of data and analysis results to aid both technical and non‑technical teams.
- Identify technical challenges, define requirements, and architect next‑generation machine learning and statistical analysis products.
- PhD in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience handling diverse data sets.
- Experience defining and leading analysis projects interfacing with multiple stakeholders.
- Proven ability to analyze large data sets and produce actionable reports.
- Experience with statistical methods for process control and optimization (e.g., Statistical Process Control, A/B testing, advanced time‑series modeling) in non‑biological contexts.
- Strong knowledge of a wide range of machine learning algorithms and model training, validation, and hyperparameter tuning principles.
- Hands‑on experience designing and implementing automated workflows and troubleshooting solutions.
- Experience with genome sequencing data from multiple technologies and using machine learning to solve biological problems.
- Proficient in programming tools such as Python, R, Java, or C++.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; team player with meticulous attention to detail in a fast‑paced environment.
- Preferred:
Demonstrated proficiency in data visualization and stakeholder communication.
Salary range: $128,000 – $282,000 (based on the Santa Clara, CA location). A discretionary annual bonus may be available. The position qualifies for benefits outlined by Roche.
