Advance your technical career as a Senior Database Engineer responsible for designing, optimizing, and sustaining enterprise-scale relational databases and data workflows. In this role, you will develop high-performance data architectures, engineer ETL pipelines, integrate new systems into existing warehouse structures, and enhance overall data quality and functionality. Unlike purely operational database roles, this position emphasizes engineering, optimization, modernization, and data integration across complex application ecosystems.
This position is located in our Lafayette, Louisiana or Knoxville, TN office; however, a hybrid working model is acceptable.
Due to the nature of government contracts, US citizenship is required.
Your Future Duties and Responsibilities- Design strategies and standards for enterprise database architecture, data modeling, indexing, performance tuning, and secure operations.
- Build, enhance, and optimize large relational databases to support application development, analytics, and enterprise reporting needs.
- Integrate new applications, data sources, and services with existing warehouse structures while refining overall system performance.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize ETL pipelines using SAP Data Services or similar tools, ensuring data integrity, consistency, and availability.
- Engineer data workflows and integrations across SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services, SQL Server Data Tools, SQL Express, and Sybase SQL Anywhere.
- Create and maintain stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, and other database objects to support evolving business and application requirements.
- Diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, including query optimization, schema enhancements, and resource utilization analysis.
- Collaborate with development, operations, and Dev Sec Ops teams to ensure seamless integration of database changes within CI/CD workflows.
- Support data quality initiatives by implementing validation processes, monitoring workflows, and improving reliability across pipelines.
- Document database configurations, ETL processes, data flows, and performance baselines for technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Contribute to modernization efforts including database refactoring, migration planning, and technical debt reduction.
- Provide technical mentorship to junior database and data engineering personnel.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 5–8 years of experience designing, engineering, and optimizing enterprise‑scale relational database systems.
- Proficiency with SQL Server platforms, including SQL Reporting Services, SQL Server Data Tools, SQL Server Express, and SQL Report Viewer Control.
- Hands‑on experience with Sybase SQL Anywhere and large relational data environments.
- Experience engineering and supporting ETL processes using SAP Data Services or similar enterprise‑grade tools.
- Knowledge of data workflows, data quality controls, and integration architecture patterns.
- Experience with SAP HANA or comparable systems for data storage, analytics, or high‑performance processing.
- Familiarity with Agile work management tools such as Azure Boards, Jira, Atlassian, or Confluence.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication, and technical documentation skills.
- Ability to participate in code reviews, performance reviews, and cross‑team technical discussions.
- Experience with cloud‑based data platforms (Azure, AWS) or hybrid data architectures.
- Experience with scripting or automation (Power Shell, Python, Bash).
- Knowledge of CI/CD practices, Dev Sec Ops pipelines, or automated database deployment techniques.
- Experience supporting large enterprise data ecosystems or regulated industries.
- Professional certifications in databases, data engineering, or cloud technologies (e.g., Microsoft SQL, SAP HANA, Azure Data Engineer).
