Hyper Lynx DRC Rule Intern (Fall 2026; EBS)
The Hyper Lynx DRC Rule Intern will review and enhance documentation for out-of-the-box Hyper Lynx DRC rules to improve clarity, usability, and customer adoption. The role focuses on translating rule intent and implementation into clear, structured guidance that reduces support needs and accelerates onboarding. A programming background in Python and/or VBScript is preferred to support understanding of rule behavior and underlying implementation when needed.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Review Existing Rule Documentation: Analyze out-of-the-box Hyper Lynx DRC rule documentation for accuracy, completeness, and clarity.
- Enhance Clarity and Usability: Rewrite and restructure rule descriptions to ensure they are easy to understand for both new and experienced users, minimizing ambiguity and redundancy.
- Translate Rule Intent into Practical Guidance: Clearly articulate the purpose, use cases, and expected outcomes of each rule, bridging the gap between algorithm implementation and user understanding.
- Standardize Documentation Structure: Apply consistent formatting, terminology, and organization across all rule documentation (e.g., description, inputs, constraints, violations, examples).
- Develop Examples and Use Cases: Create concise, real-world examples illustrating rule behavior, common violations, and recommended fixes.
- Validate Rule Behavior Against Documentation: Cross-check documented behavior with actual rule execution to ensure alignment and identify discrepancies.
- Collaborate with Engineering and Product Teams: Work with rule authors and developers to clarify technical details, assumptions, and edge cases.
- Leverage Scripting Knowledge for Deeper Insight: Use VBScript and Python (where applicable) to inspect rule logic, test behaviors, or create small validation scripts.
- Identify Documentation Gaps and Improvement Opportunities: Proactively flag unclear areas, missing guidance, or support-heavy topics that require better explanation.
- Support Customer Adoption and Onboarding: Optimize documentation to reduce support requests and accelerate user understanding and productivity.
- Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Technical Background: Basic understanding of PCB design, signal integrity, or electronic design automation (EDA) concepts preferred; familiarity with rule-based verification or design constraint checking is a plus.
- Programming
Skills:
Working knowledge of Python and/or VBScript preferred; ability to read and interpret scripts to understand rule behavior and logic is a plus. - Analytical
Skills:
Strong ability to interpret technical logic and translate it into clear, user‑friendly explanations; detail‑oriented with a focus on accuracy and consistency. - Documentation & Communication: Strong written communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and concisely; experience creating or editing technical documentation is a plus.
- Problem‑Solving Ability: Ability to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or ambiguities in documentation and propose improvements; comfortable working through incomplete information by engaging with subject matter experts; able to work effectively with cross‑functional teams including engineering, QA, and product management.
- Tool Familiarity (Preferred): Exposure to EDA tools such as Hyper Lynx DRC, Xpedition, Allegro, Valor NPI or similar platforms is a plus.
- Personal Attributes: Self‑motivated, organized, and proactive; willingness to learn complex technical domains; focus on improving user experience and customer adoption.
Pay: $18–$50 per hour, based on projected graduation year and experience.
