Description of DutiesThe Network & Systems Administration Lead supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract and leads a team of Linux and Windows system engineers and administrators.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and oversight for a team of high‑performing, mission‑minded Linux and Windows system engineers (SE) and administrators (SA).
- Serve as the program subject‑matter expert (SME) for SE and SA subjects, including operating systems, hardware/software integration, and virtualization.
- Delegate tasks to the existing team of SEs and SAs in a fast‑paced environment.
- Coordinate support with other internal program elements to give and receive additional support as needed.
- Work closely with other teams to provide high‑quality, innovative system administration services to the Government customer.
- Identify and define requirements for new systems or system modifications, develop designs, and implement and test solutions.
- Ensure daily system monitoring, system backup and restoration, and application upgrades to maintain optimal and continuous system operations.
- Be responsible for ensuring system software installations, maintenance, break/fix activities, and cyber security mitigations are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures and service level agreements.
- Coordinate with hardware and software vendors and participate in all vendor‑required activities, such as quarterly infrastructure reviews.
- Assist in SE and SA tasks as the mission requires.
- Develop and maintain system plans, procedures, processes and baseline configuration documentation.
- Be responsible for creating training plans in order to develop and mentor SEs and SAs.
- Facilitate effective interchanges with various stakeholders.
- Support projects from initiation through requirements management, task execution, and system sustainment.
- Document designs and create comprehensive implementation and test plans for execution by sustainment personnel.
- Full‑time, on‑site position.
- Work independently, take initiative, and drive projects to completion with minimal supervision.
- 12+ years of general full‑time work experience (may be reduced with advanced education).
- 6+ years of direct/specialized experience in a computer operations environment performing systems administration or systems engineering of Windows or Linux systems.
- 6+ months of experience working in a management or leadership role.
- Experience with virtual environments (VMware, Linux KVM).
- Experience managing network infrastructure (routers, switches, firewalls, etc.).
- Current DoW 8570 IAT Level II certification or higher (Security+).
- Active DoW Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) or other Department of Defense (DoD) organizations.
- Experience developing detailed implementation plans for new solutions and systems.
- Understanding of the System Engineering V‑Model and engineering lifecycle.
- Track record of effectively troubleshooting and applying critical thinking to resolve IT system dependencies, impacts, and sustainability challenges.
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- DoD networking experience with classified data networks and knowledge of red/black concepts.
- Strong understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF 5.0) system requirements.
- Strong understanding of DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and their application.
- Basic operational automation and scripting knowledge (Powershell, Linux Bash, Ansible, etc.).
- Relevant certifications:
CompTIA Linux+, CompTIA Network+, Red Hat Linux (RHCSA, RHCE), Windows (WSHAA), VMware (VCFA), Juniper (JNCIA‑Junos, JNCIA‑SEC).
