Employment Defense Associate - Fully Remote
OverviewA highly respected boutique employment law firm seeks an Employment Defense Associate to work directly with a senior partner on sophisticated employment litigation matters. This is a hands‑on role with significant responsibility, strong mentorship, and exceptional professional development.
Associates are involved in all phases of cases—from strategy through trial—beginning with heavy motion and discovery work and growing into broader case management and courtroom experience.
Responsibilities- Defend employers in employment litigation, including single‑plaintiff FEHA actions
- Draft and argue motions, including summary judgment
- Conduct and defend depositions
- Manage discovery and pre‑trial preparation
- Independently handle smaller matters; work in a team‑based approach on larger cases
- Collaborate closely with a senior partner on case strategy
- J.D. (must be ABA accredited) and CA BAR
- Bar exam passed on first attempt2-5 years of employment litigation experience
- Defense‑side experience strongly preferred
- Experience with depositions, dispositive motions, and pre‑trial proceedings
- Strong legal writing and analytical skills
- Trial experience a plus
- Compensation: Up to $260,000+ (commensurate with experience)
- Bonuses: Annual performance bonus and firm‑wide summer bonus
- Billables: 1,800 hours/year (150/month)
