Regional Lead, Claims & Insurance

We are looking for an experienced and proactive Regional Lead, Claims & Insurance for an established shipping and logistics group. This role oversees a multi-disciplinary team managing high-value marine casualties, cargo liabilities, and risk mitigation across the Asia-Pacific corridor. As a senior legal and insurance strategist, you will safeguard the group’s interests by navigating complex maritime jurisprudence and multi-jurisdictional disputes.

• Litigation & Dispute Strategy:
  Lead the legal strategy for high-value maritime disputes, including cargo liabilities, charter party breaches, and debt recovery.
• Casualty Response:
  Direct the legal response to major maritime incidents (e.g., General Average, collisions, salvage), managing the interface between technical teams and external counsel.
• P&I & Underwriting Liaison:
  Serve as the principal point of contact for P&I Clubs and underwriters; lead negotiations on Letters of Undertaking (LOU) and policy interpretations.
• Panel Management:
  Oversee a regional panel of top-tier maritime law firms, ensuring cost-effective and high-quality legal representation across the APAC corridor.
• Contractual Advisory:
  Provide expert legal counsel on the drafting and interpretation of Bills of Lading, service contracts, and emerging regulatory frameworks (e.g., IMO 2023/24 compliance).

• Degree in Law (LLB/LLM) or a specialized Master’s in Maritime Law.
• Experience:
  
  10+ years of post-qualification experience (PQE) specializing in maritime law, gained either within a premier shipping law firm, a P&I Club, or a major international carrier.
• Knowledge Base:
  Deep knowledge of the Hague-Visby Rules, York-Antwerp Rules, and international shipping conventions.
• Leadership:
  Proven ability to lead a decentralized team of legal and claims professionals in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.
