2019 W. Texas St. Fairfield, CA 94533. Full‑time, Permanent.

• Supervise a crew of mechanics, helpers, and apprentices in the construction, servicing, and repair of automotive, construction, and highway maintenance equipment.
• Maintain records, establish training programs, implement departmental policies, and prepare tool and equipment budgets.
• Make estimates for equipment repairs, improvements, and disposal; determine repair, use, and transportation of equipment.
• Act in the absence of the Highway Equipment Superintendent and direct shop and field personnel.
• Maintain a safe workplace and a constructive relationship with outside vendors, ensuring quality and timely repairs.
• Collaborate with district personnel and other state agencies to promote economical use of equipment.

Eligibility for hire may depend on your score on the Caltrans Highway Mechanic Supervisor exam. Applicants without current eligibility must be on the state examination list. New‑to‑state candidates will be hired at the minimum salary of the classification or the minimum of the alternate range, when applicable.

$6,874.00 – $8,137.00 per month.

Work is conducted in a state equipment shop with exposure to loud noise, dust, oils, solvents, lead paint, welding fumes, gas, and diesel engine smoke. The position may require shifting schedules and overtime during high workloads or extreme weather.
