The Branch

The Public Works Branch is responsible for planning, providing and maintaining infrastructure that supports Carlsbad’s excellent quality of life. The branch includes a variety of departments including Environmental Sustainability, Fleet & Facilities, Construction Management & Inspection, Transportation and Utilities. More than 195 full‑time equivalent staff support the branch, which also has an annual total budget of over $123 million, along with a total Capital Improvement Program (CIP) appropriation of over $110 million.

Position

Summary

The current Supervisor vacancy is in the Facilities Maintenance Division. The division is responsible for the care of approximately 45 city‑owned complexes made up of over 100 buildings. The primary responsibility of this position would be to manage the day‑to‑day building maintenance and repair operations of the City’s facilities, including managing full‑time building maintenance staff and contracted services, ensuring an effective response to staff for all emergency and routine requirements, and assuring the effectiveness of customer service, equipment, training, production, and resource allocation.

Ideal

Candidate

The ideal candidate will have strong supervisory experience, including hiring, staffing, coaching and development. Strong knowledge of building maintenance and repair methods, including best practices and construction techniques in multiple trades such as carpentry, drywall, electrical and emergency power systems, plumbing, roofing, and HVAC systems is ideal. Overall strong knowledge of municipal Public Works related maintenance, supervision, scheduling, and service request/work order management is desirable.

A bachelor’s degree in project/construction management, business administration or certification in facility management is preferable.

  • Inspect work sites before, during, and after completion to assure work is completed in a satisfactory and thorough manner.
