The Sustainability Program Director is responsible for the development and execution of a comprehensive sustainability program that aligns with the overarching goals and mission of Rady Children’s Health Orange County. This role helps position the organization as a national leader in environmental sustainability and promotes long‑standing sustainability practices through building efficiencies and waste management.
Responsibilities- Develop, implement, promote and monitor environmental sustainability strategies and goals.
- Lead the deployment of sustainability actions that reduce ecological damage and improve efficiency.
- Engage staff at all levels and exemplify the organization’s mission, vision and values.
- Required:
Five (5) years of experience in health care sustainability. - Preferred:
Ten (10+) years of experience in health care sustainability.
- Required:
Bachelor’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field. - Preferred:
Master’s degree in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field.
- Required:
Extensive knowledge of local, regional and national sustainable business strategies, life cycle assessment (LCA), ROI analysis and other key sustainability tools. - Required:
Ability to analyze data, evaluate outcomes and recommend actions. - Required:
Knowledge of environmental health and safety guidelines, U.S. Green Building Council leadership in environmental design, green guidelines for health care and basic environmental compliance. - Required:
Understanding of waste and inefficiencies in the health care supply chain. - Required:
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including presentation, verbal, and written communication, and public speaking. - Preferred: U.S. Green Building Council LEED Green Associate certification.

Licensure (as applicable).
- Functional Demand:
Sedentary – very light energy level. - Lift up to 10 lbs. overhead, 15 lbs. loose, 20 lbs. cart.
- Tasks: bending, carrying, climbing, keyboard use, fine motor activities, push/pull, reaching, sitting, standing, walking.
- Sensitivity: color discrimination, depth perception, hearing, vision; exposure to airborne communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens, dust, chemicals, extreme temperatures.
