Resident Hall Director

Position Accountable to:
Director of Residential Life/Student Retention

General Summary

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, direction of all phases of the Resident Hall and training and education of student assistants; ensuring the educational programming and safety procedures are implemented and followed. Provide excellent customer service to students, donors, sponsors, alumni and internal and external constituents. This position requires the candidate to live on campus within an apartment in the residential hall.

Primary

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Understand and analyze the atmosphere in the residence hall (15%)
  • Identify challenges and respond to all situations and concerns (15%)
  • Responsible for the day‑to‑day operations, services, and activities of the Resident Hall; supervise undergraduate staff and develop a team that implements all activities, programs and services needed to create an inclusive community reflecting the mission and goals of Residence Life, the Office of Student Development, and Central Methodist University (15%)
  • Facilitate a positive, supportive atmosphere that fosters success in academic and personal endeavors by developing individual relationships with students (10%)
  • Implement departmental community initiatives and foster an environment that values respect for others and celebrates differences (10%)
  • Support the Office of Student Development and student retention (10%)
  • Advise and supervise hall groups (5%)
  • Conduct building meetings, inspections, and support student leadership (5%)
  • Serve on an on‑call rotation (5%)
  • Provide excellent customer service skills for both areas of responsibilities (5%)
  • Other duties as assigned
Managerial/Supervisory Responsibilities

Must coordinate all Resident Assistants in the building for scheduling, direction, and conflict management.

Strong Communication and Organizational Skills Required

Must maintain CMU driving approval.

Education and Experience Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree required.
