Position: ASSISTANT DIVISION CHIEF, AIR RESOURCES BOARD
Location: California

Assistant Division Chief, Industrial Strategies Division

State Air Resources Board, California.

Salary: $14,541.00 – $16,511.00 per month.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the Division Chief in planning, organizing, and directing the activities of the Industrial Strategies Division.
  • Advise the Division Chief on program and administrative policy matters related to division responsibilities.
  • Coordinate division activities with other divisions and the Executive Office to achieve strategic objectives.
  • Determine and implement division policies and procedures.
  • Manage and allocate budgetary and personnel resources within the division.
  • Consult with the Division Chief, Branch Managers, and executive management on policy and program development and evaluation.
  • Direct and complete special projects as requested by the Division Chief, Executive Officer, or Board Members.
  • Act as Division Chief in the absence of the Division Chief.
Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge of California’s climate change and air quality programs, including Cap‑and‑Trade, AB 32 Scoping Plan, Short‑Lived Climate Pollutants Strategy, Low Carbon Fuel Standard, and related energy, agriculture, and waste sector programs.
  • Experience preparing and delivering written and verbal communications to senior audiences, including legislators and legislative offices.
  • Experience managing projects and staff across organizational units, meeting schedule and budget goals.
  • Understanding of the state rule‑making process and experience formulating and implementing policy recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental justice activities and ability to build relationships with regulators, environmental groups, and other stakeholders.
  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
  • Additional desirable qualifications include managerial experience, disciplinary process knowledge, inclusive workplace practices, and multicultural sensitivity.
Working Conditions
  • Hybrid work possible; in‑state telework subject to agency policy.
  • Position located in a high‑rise building; stationary office work for extended periods.
  • Standard office environment with personal computer, office equipment, and telephone.
  • Travel may be required.
