Manager, Operations - Gas (Nevada)

Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. (AQN), parent company of Liberty, is a diversified international generation, transmission, and distribution utility.

Purpose

The Manager of Operations plans, organizes, coordinates, and manages the daily operational activities within an assigned functional area for the natural gas distribution system within one or more communities.

Accountabilities
  • Develop, implement, and revise processes and documentation to promote streamlined, efficient services, records of accountability and workflow of all activities.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings to problem‑solve issues, to inform on company performance and create initiative‑taking practices.
  • Develop, schedule and conduct regular supervisor meetings with each team member.
  • Create facility schedule, ensuring that all operational hours are always covered.
  • Develop and monitor functional area budgets to ensure efficient utilization of resources.
  • Review staff requirements regularly to ensure sufficient trained resources are available and proactively identify the need to add to the staffing.
  • Engage in proactive, regular communication and interaction with members of the management team; lead change and manage projects and initiatives to successful completion.
  • Represent the Company to regulatory authorities, public officials, customers and the public.
  • Establish business relationships with area developers, home builders, contractors and economic/industrial development groups to increase gas sales and expand customer growth.
  • Initiate and supervise service and/or construction orders for new main construction, main replacements, and large‑volume meter sets.
  • Schedule, monitor and conduct quality‑control audits of work performed by assigned employees to ensure system integrity, regulatory compliance, and customer safety.
  • Work closely with engineering to identify system improvements, upgrades and field functions required to maintain system integrity.
  • Respond to customer inquiries and complaints within areas of responsibility to maintain a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Coordinate activities for emergencies, outages, and pressure problems.
  • Direct three teams; be responsible for determining team structure and roles of members.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience.
  • Ability to provide direction, support, and constructive feedback to a variety of staff while coordinating diverse business functions.
  • Natural gas utility experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license with flexibility to travel to other office locations as needed.
  • Ability to perform analysis involving ratios, percentages and simple statistical methods and/or to reconcile financial statements and accounts.
  • Intermediate computer skills with Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel.
  • Exposure to poor weather:
    Occasionally.
  • Driving or travel:
    Up to 25%.
  • Exposure to tense, emotionally unstable or unpredictable people:
    Occasionally.
