Operations Manager, Program / Project Manager
The Preserve Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall management, supervision of seasonal staff and volunteers, and safety of Palmyra Preserve operations. The PM oversees the maintenance of Preserve facilities and equipment—including generators, marina & boats, photovoltaic systems, runway, kitchen and housekeeping services—and coordinates support for visitor and research trips.

- Ensuring the safety of Preserve operations and staff.
- Overseeing maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Coordinating logistics and support for visitor and research trips.
- Managing kitchen and housekeeping services.
- Maintaining accurate reports and inventories using MS Word and Excel.
- Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of experience in facilities management and operations (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- Cumulative 1 year of experience working in a confined community such as aboard a ship, field camp, or remote field station.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise staff, set objectives, manage performance, and motivate team members.
- Experience overseeing construction or maintenance repairs of buildings or facilities.
- Experience with diesel and gasoline engines, generators, outboard motors, water filtration, plumbing, hydraulics, refrigeration, and energy systems (including photovoltaic and battery storage).
- Experience overseeing food preparation, housekeeping, and inventory control services.
- Ability to perform physical work and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Proficiency with MS Word and Excel for reports and inventories.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Valid driver’s license and compliance with the TNC Auto Safety Program.
- Valid passport with an expiration date beyond the term of employment.
- Physical examination showing good health and a current tetanus vaccination.
Starting pay is $3,000 biweekly (gross). Returning Palmyra staff receive higher rates based on experience.
Location and AssignmentThe assignment takes place on Palmyra Atoll, a remote island 1,000 mi south of Hawai‘i. Board and lodging are provided during the three-month seasonal assignment.
