Job Overview
Located in Central California in the Sierra Mountains, 4 hours east of San Francisco, this Pest Manager role is responsible for administering and overseeing an effective, environmentally sensitive approach to pest management within Yosemite National Park. The primary focus is on the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program, including facility inspection, trapping, documentation, and coordination with the National Park Service’s Wildlife office and IPM coordinator.
Key responsibilities include the continuous development and administration of sustainable systems, programs, and procedures that complement and enhance the existing IPM program.
- Develop action thresholds for specific aspects of the IPM program and communicate thresholds to key stakeholders.
- Administer corrective counseling as needed and report to the Environmental Manager.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment, including respirators, bee suits, Tyvek suits, gloves, etc., and work in outdoor conditions such as dirt, dust, extreme heat, snow, and rain.
- Operate comfortably around wildlife, including bears, rodents, spiders, ants, squirrels, marmots, and deer.
- Undergo a background check and maintain a valid U.S. driver’s license with an MVR clearance to operate company vehicles.
- Pass a respirator fit test and proper use of respirator.
- Perform major duties across four functional areas:
- Measure Pest Activity (10% of time): conduct inspections, review trapping documentation, assess exclusion and abatement effectiveness, and report findings to stakeholders and NPS.
- Facility Inspections and NPS Liaison (70% of time): identify structural deficiencies, develop occupant best practices, coordinate with NPS Wildlife, track pesticide usage, attend trainings, and collaborate with pest contractors.
- Documentation (10% of time): develop and maintain IPM documentation for internal and external review.
- Program Development (10% of time): design rodent trapping programs for work and housing areas, provide training on PPE, and coordinate facility repairs to meet exclusion requirements.
- Preferred degree in biology, environmental sciences, wildlife behavior, or related fields.
- Minimum 2 years of Integrated Pest Management or similar pest control experience.
- Proficiency with computer programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- General knowledge of IPM methods.
- Willingness and ability to obtain IPM certification through the National Park Service.
- Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
Salary range: $70,304.00 to $90,000.00 (Salaried).
