Job Overview
Nelnet is building its next‑generation Horizon platform and seeks a Group Product Manager to lead a small team of Product Managers while actively shipping product increments.
Job Responsibilities- Hands‑On Product Ownership – Own a core area of the Horizon platform end‑to‑end: run discovery, write requirements, prioritize work, and partner with engineering and design to ship tangible results.
- Team Leadership & Development – Mentor and grow a small team of Product Managers, set clear expectations, foster an outcome‑oriented culture, and balance autonomy with direct coaching.
- Product Strategy & Execution – Own the strategy and roadmap for your group’s Horizon areas, translate overarching vision into a sequenced plan, and identify practical AI applications.
- Cross‑Functional Collaboration – Partner with sales, marketing, implementation, client success, engineering, compliance, security, and risk to launch features that are market‑ready, meet regulatory requirements, and deliver measurable business outcomes.
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Computer Science, Finance, or a related field (required). Advanced degree with emphasis on strategy, technology, or leadership preferred.
Experience- 6+ years of product management experience, including at least 1 year mentoring or directly managing Product Managers.
- Experience launching complex SaaS or platform products and shipping AI‑enabled or data‑driven software with measurable impact.
- Proven ability to align and influence stakeholders across engineering, design, and commercial functions.
- Experience in higher education technology, fintech, payments, or B2B2C platforms is preferred.
- Knowledge of PCI Level 1 compliance and payment processing workflows (e.g., Workday, Banner, People Soft, Colleague) is advantageous.
- Player‑coach mindset – comfortable writing specs and digging into data while coaching PMs.
- Visionary leadership that rallies teams around a compelling direction.
- High agency, ownership of outcomes beyond formal scope, and decisive prioritization.
- Strong GTM fluency and ability to partner with commercial teams on launches.
- Clear, concise communicator who translates complexity into alignment.
- Customer‑obsessed with rigorous ties to institutions, administrators, and students.
Annual compensation range: $100,000 – $150,000, commensurate with experience.

Hybrid work option: associates within 30 miles of an office can work remotely part of the week and are expected to spend three days in the office for collaboration.
