Role Description

The Library Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Versailles, MO, responsible for overseeing all library operations, services, and staff. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing library programs and collections, supervising and supporting employees, and ensuring high-quality public and circulation services. The Director develops and implements policies, budgets, and strategic plans, and reports regularly to the Library Board. This role involves engaging with community members and partners, seeking grants and funding opportunities, and promoting the library through outreach and communications.

The Director also monitors facilities, technology, and resources to ensure a safe, accessible, and well-maintained environment for patrons.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Library Science and experience delivering high-quality Library Services.
  • Proven Library Management skills, including staff supervision, budgeting, planning, and policy development.
  • Experience in Public Services, with a commitment to inclusive, patron-centered service and community outreach.
  • Knowledge of Circulation practices, including cataloging basics, patron account management, and workflow optimization.
  • Relevant degree in Library Science or a related field; MLS/MLIS or equivalent preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, decision-making, and problem-solving abilities in a public or community-focused setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with staff, board members, and community partners.
  • Comfort with library technologies, digital resources, and basic IT troubleshooting; willingness to adapt to new systems.
  • Experience with grant writing, fundraising, or managing external funding is beneficial.
